June 11, 2002
LOS ANGELES -- USC men's tennis senior Andrew Park has been selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American Men's At-Large second team, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and selection committee on Tuesday, June 11.
This is Park's second consecutive second team All-American honor. Last season, after also being named to the Region VIII Academic All-American first team, he went on to earn national second team honors. Park was named to the Region VIII second team in 2000.
Seventeen student-athletes were named to the 2002 first team, 15 to the second team and 13 to the third team.
The men's at-large ballot includes athletes from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Athletes must have at least a 3.20 GPA, be a 'starter' or 'important reserve' on their team and must be in at least their second season at their school to be eligible to be named to the regional teams. Only first team regional selections are eligible for All-America honors.
Park, a four-year letterwinner for the 2002 NCAA Championship Trojans, graduated on May 10 with a degree in biological sciences, a minor in biotechnology and a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. He will begin graduate coursework in USC's Keck School of Medicine in the fall.
