Dave Reischman Takes Position at Syracuse

June 24, 2002

Corvallis, Ore. - Syracuse University has hired David Reischman as its new head coach of men's crew. He takes over the Orangemen program after serving as head crew coach at Oregon State University for the past eight seasons. Reischman replaces Bill Sanford, who retired this spring following 34 seasons in charge of the SU crew program.

'The decision to leave the athletes I coach at Oregon State was one of the hardest of my life,' said Reischman. 'In the end, the chance to coach at Syracuse and the challenge of increasing the speed of the program was just too inviting to turn down.'

Reischman began coaching at Oregon State in September of 1994. He was responsible for organizing all aspects of the men's rowing program, including recruiting, technical development, training programs, monitoring academic progress, equipment management, budget development and alumni relations. This past spring, Oregon State enjoyed a top 10 finish in the final team standings of the IRA Regatta. His varsity eight finished fourth overall at the prestigious championship.

A three-time United States National Team coach, Reischman served his most recent stint during the summer of 2001. He assisted Coach Mike Teti with the preparation of the 2001 United States National Team. His primary responsibility was coaching the Four with Coxswain at the World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland. During the summer of 1994, Reischman helped Coach Igor Grinko with the preparation of the U.S. Sculling Team for the 1994 World Championships. In 1993, he aided in the preparation for the Men's Single Sculler and also assisted Coach Grinko with the selection camp for the men's quad.

From 1989-1994, Reischman served as Director of Rowing at Gonzaga University. In that position, he organized and administered all aspects of Gonzaga's collegiate rowing program.

Reischman received his start in coaching as an intern at Harvard University during the 1987-88 school year. He interned under Coach Harry Parker and observed all aspects of the program from season-long development of training programs to the selection of athletes. The next year, Reischman moved on to become the freshmen coach at Florida Institute of Technology, a position he held for one season.

In May of 1991, Reischman was selected as head coach of the Olympic Festival Development Camp which was held at the Cincinnati Rowing Center. He helped select and prepare the Men's Four with Coxswain and Quad for the Olympic Sports Festival in Los Angeles.

Reischman attended high school in Arlington, Washington. In 1987, he received his bachelor of science degree in computer science from Gonzaga University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
