Pedersen Joins Pac-10 Staff

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Dan Pedersen has been named Coordinator of Baseball Officiating for the 2002-03 academic year, Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

As part of the league's newly created baseball officiating program, Pedersen will identify and assign umpires for Conference and nonconference games at the Pac-10's nine baseball playing institutions. He will also be responsible for evaluating Pac-10 umpires and developing training opportunities for officials.

Pedersen has spent the past five years (1997-2002) as Supervisor of Baseball Umpires for the Western Athletic Conference. Under his guidance, the WAC program has become one of the most successful in the nation. As an umpire, Pedersen has been selected to work several NCAA postseason contests, including the College World Series (1985, '86, '91, '94, '99) and NCAA Super Regionals (1999, '00, '01). In addition to his work on the collegiate level, Pedersen has worked the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, and the professional minor leagues (1978-80). He was also part of the crew for the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team's game against Japan at Dodger Stadium.

Pedersen holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.
