July 2, 2002
Non-conference games against NCAA participants Georgia, Baylor and Pepperdine and tournament appearances in Hawaii and Las Vegas highlight the 2002-03 UCLA women's basketball schedule.
The Bruins, which return four starters from last year's team, as well as 2000 Pac-10 scoring champion Michelle Greco, open the season with two tournaments. First, the Bruins will compete at the Hawaii Tournament on Nov. 23 and 24 and then at the UNLV Tournament on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Tournament opponents have yet to be determined.
UCLA's home opener will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against St. Mary's College at 7:00 pm in Pauley Pavilion. Following that game, the Bruins will challenge three consecutive NCAA participants in Georgia (Dec. 6 in Athens), Pepperdine (Dec. 14 in Malibu) and Baylor (Dec. 19 at Pauley Pavilion). After one final non-conference game against Cal State Northridge (Dec. 21), UCLA's Pac-10 schedule kicks off in Oregon against the Ducks on Dec. 27, followed by Oregon State on Dec. 29. The Bruins' first home conference game will be Friday, Jan. 3 against Washington at 7:00 pm.
The Bruins will play cross-town rival USC at home on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 pm and at the Sports Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4:00 pm. Defending regular-season Pac-10 champion Stanford comes to Pauley Pavilion on Friday, Jan. 24, and Pac-10 Tournament champion Arizona State comes to town on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 pm.
The Pac-10 Tournament will take place Mar. 7-10 at the Compaq Center in San Jose.
All of UCLA's games will be broadcast live on the internet at www.uclabruins.com and on the UCLA Radio Network.
Said UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier, 'Once again we are playing a high-quality pre-season schedule. There is no better way to help prepare for the Pac-10. I see the conference as being as competitive as ever. The conference tournament should be one of the most exciting events in the nation.'
