Bocchi, Ethier and Sopko Named Northwoods League All-Stars

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State Sun Devil baseball players Andre Ethier, Mark Sopko and Joel Bocchi have been named to the Northwoods League Midseason All-Star team. Ethier and Bocchi both play for the Rochester (Minn.) Honkers, while Sopko is the ace relief pitcher for the Madison (Wisc.) Mallards.

Ethier, who earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in his first year with ASU in 2002, is ninth in the Northwoods League in hitting at .319 and is second with 27 RBI. He has three home runs and four doubles. Ethier finished his rookie campaign at ASU with a .363 batting average, clubbing three home runs and 14 doubles.

Bocchi is hitting .247 in 26 games as the Honkers normal starting catcher. He has three doubles and four RBI (batting in the second spot in the lineup). He has started 14 games behind the plate, one at first base, five at second base and two at third base. The sophomore-to-be hit .214 in his freshman year at ASU.

Sopko is having a great summer out of the bullpen, going 2-0 with four saves and a nearly flawless 0.77 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. The sophomore-to-be was 2-2 with one save while pitching in an team-high 25 games for the Sun Devils in 2002.
