Shields Finishes Second In Shot Put At World Junior Championships

University of Arizona sophomore-to-be Sean Shields finished second in theshot put at the IAAF/Coca-Cola World Junior Championships in Kinston,Jamaica.
Shields, competing for the United States, tossed the six-kilograminternational shot 67-feet, 4-inches (20.54m) on his fifth attempt of thefinal round.
Edis Elkasevic of Croatia won the event with a throw of 70-5 3/4 (21.47m),setting a World Junior Record in the shot put. Finland's Mika Vasarafinished third, just behind Shields, with a throw of 67-3 1/4 (20.50m).
Shields, who finished ninth in the shot put at the NCAA OutdoorChampionships earlier this year, won the U.S. Juniors Championship in theshot put and will compete in the discus at the World Juniors meet tomorrow.
