Griffin Nets Two Goals At USYSA Nationals

July 25, 2002

Germantown, Md. - UCLA junior defender Leonard Griffin scored two goals as the San Bernardino Blast tied the Chicago Magic, 3-3, in the second day of play at the 2002 Snicker US Youth Soccer National Championships.

Griffin, who has played in every game for UCLA since 2000, scored a first-half goal in injury time to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1. Just one minute after Chicago regained the lead in the 52nd minute, Griffin struck again to even the score a second time.

The Blast, which also features Bruin players Mike Enfield, Adolfo Gregorio, Ahmed Khalil and Ty Maurin, answered a 62nd-minute goal by the Magic with a goal of their own in the 71st minute for the final score.

The Blast pick up one point for the tie and are in fourth place with one game remaining Friday morning against the Stony Brook Panthers. Stony Brook and Chicago are just one point ahead of the Blast with two points each. San Bernardino needs a victory on Friday to have a chance to stay alive in the tournament.

On Wednesday, the Blast lost, 2-0, to Texans '82/'83.
