Volleyball Team 5-0 in Europe
Aug. 15, 2002
The following is a report from Assistant Volleyball Coach Jen Greeny.
Hello from Europe!!
We are undefeated so far after five matches. Here are the highlights of the contests so far with the WSU scores listed first (international rules play to 25 points) -
Team Lohoff (Dachau) 25-20, 25-17, 25-21, WSU was led by LaToya Harris with 14 kills.
Augsburg (Germany) 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, LaToya led Cougars again with 13 kills, Adrian Hankoff added 12 kills.
Salzburg (Austria) 25-23, 25-22, 26-24. This team did not want to play morethan three games because they thought we were not very good. Their coachwas not really nice. This was by far our most intense game. Adrian led the Cougs with13 kills, LaToya had 11 and hit .529, and Chelsie Schafer had 11 kills and hit .667. Theteam hit a .508!
Club Vasas (Budapest) We were the first American team (college, etc.) toever play in Hungary so it was a big deal. All of the matches before this one on our trip were very informal and laid back. This contest was very formal with referees, time outsat 8 and 16 points, substitutions with the little cards, etc. Latvian freshman Ance Auzina really helped us along because we knew nothing of these international rules. She also lit it up with 11 kills and hit .393. Chelsie had 8 and Holly Harris 6. We lost our firstgame after an 8 hour bus ride though! 12-25, but won the last three 25-22, 25-20, and 26-24. The second nite we played the same team and defeated them 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
Tomorrow we are off to Brno, Czech Republic. We have just missed the flood waters whereverwe go. The flood is supposed to be here tomorrow. So many beautifulsites...not enough time to see them all. We are pleased with the team's performance. They are playing well and have had a great time.
Hopefully I will find another computer in the Czech Republic. See ya soon.
