Aug. 19, 2002

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State soccer team has been tabbed to finish fourth in the Pacific-10 Conference race this year in a preseason vote of the head coaches. The fourth place selection is the highest predicted finish in the seven years of the program. Nationally in the preseason polls, Arizona State was selected 23rd by Soccer Buzz Magazine.

UCLA was picked to win the conference with Stanford close behind for second place. Just four points separate the third - through fifth - place teams, with Washington rounding out the top three with 68 points, narrowly edging Arizona State (65 pts.) and California (64 pts.).

The Sun Devils, under second year head coach Ray Leone, return three All-Pac-10 Conference selections and a very strong freshman class that was ranked No. 4 in the country by two different publications.

Arizona State begins its seventh season of competition on Friday, August 30, hosting Pepperdine at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
