WSU Takes On EWU In Saturday Exhibition

PULLMAN, Wash. --- The Washington State soccer team will tune-up for the 2002 season with an exhibition against Eastern Washington 2 p.m. Saturday at Coeur d'Alene High School in Coeur d'Alene.

The Cougars begin the regular season Aug. 30 in Missoula, Mont., at the Montana Diadora cup. Minnesota will be the opening opponent in that event, followed by the host Grizzlies Sept. 2.

The first home match will be Sept. 8 against Idaho. WSU and UI have not met since 1999.

Washington State practiced in Pullman until Tuesday afternoon, when the team left for Coeur d'Alene to prepare for the exhibition Saturday.

OTHER NOTES ranked Washington State's 2002 recruiting class No. 32 nationally, and No. 8 in the West Region. The 2002 class included transfers Nicole Wilcox from Iowa State and Shelby Brownfield of Connecticut, and freshmen Carmen Anderson, Jennie Kunc, Haley Miller, Alix Rustrum, and Ashley Smith.
