Bears Add USF to 2002-03 Schedule

Aug. 26, 2002

BERKELEY - Cal will host the University of San Francisco in a men's basketball game on Monday, Dec. 30 in Haas Pavilion, head coach Ben Braun announced today.

The game replaces the previously scheduled Cal-Providence contest, which was to take place Nov. 26 but has since been cancelled. Cal's home opener will now be Dec. 3 vs. Howard.

Cal leads the all-time series with USF, but the teams have not met since Dec. 2, 1997. The Dons won that match-up, 59-50, in San Francisco, although the Bears were without soon-to-be starting guards Geno Carlisle and Thomas Kilgore, who were not yet eligible after transferring.

The last time the schools played in Berkeley, Cal prevailed, 78-63, on Dec. 23, 1996 in Harmon Gym during Braun's first season at the helm of the Bears.

This year's Cal-USF game will be the Bears' final non-conference tune-up before the Pac-10 season gets underway Jan. 4 vs. Stanford.
