Cross Country Sweeps Cal State Fullerton Season Opener

Brea, Calif. - The Stanford men's and women's cross country squads swept the Cal State Fullerton Season Opener at the Carbon Canyon Regional on Saturday. Stanford's Adam Tenforde picked up his first career victory in the men's 8000-meter race with a time of 24:44.40. On the women's side, Stanford's Alicia Craig and Sara Bei both came across the 5000 meter finish line in 17:01.70 to share the victory.
The second-ranked men's team totaled 17 points in its victory with Jesse Thomas (2nd, 24:47.20), Neil Davis (3rd, 24:52.60), Isaac Hawkins (6th, 25:17.60) and Andrew Hill (7th, 25:18.50) completing the Cardinal scoring.
The women's squad (first 2002 rankings not released until September 6) finished with 19 points as Malindi Elmore (3rd, 17:30.20), Jeane Goff (4th, 17:32.00) and Anita Siraki (9th, 17:58.10) rounded out Stanford's scoring.
Other Stanford competitors in the men's race included Justin Romaniuk (12th, 25:29.90), Sean Knapp (15th, 25:37.20), Andrew Powell (20th, 25:54.10), Philip West (23rd, 26:04.00), David Stillman (25th, 26:06.00) and Steve Loughlin (50th, 26:32.80).On the women's side, the Cardinal also featured Erin Sullivan (11th, 18:00.90), Mariel Ettinger (13th, 18:14.70), Katie Hotchkiss (29th, 19:02.50), Lindsay Hyatt (35th, 19:09.90) and Elizabeth Rose (62nd, 19:58.20).
The Stanford cross country teams will next compete by hosting the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, September 28.
