CORVALLIS, Ore. - Allison Lawrence's match-high 12 kills helped lead the Oregon State volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Idaho State at the OSU Volleyball Showcase on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-19, 30-17 and 30-23.
Defensively, the Beavers outdug the Bengals, 46-24, and both teams had six blocks for the match. OSU's Megan McMillan had a match-high 11 digs, while Hannaford and Solomon had four block assists apiece.
Several reserves saw action in the match as coach Nancy Somera used the match as a chance for some younger players to get experience. Redshirt freshman Karah Rhoades played in game three, finishing with four kills and one dig. Sophomore Amanda Eggert hit .400 with three kills and a dig, while freshman setter Desma Stovall saw some action in game three. She had one attack attempt but no other stats. Senior Tami Halleck made her first collegiate appearance in game two of the match. She served once, but had no stats in the contest.
'This is the most depth we've had since we've been here, but if that depth doesn't get any match experience, it's not going to help us,' Somera said. 'It was nice to let some of the back-up players get in. Karah and Amanda did a great job.'
Melanie Tucker led ISU with nine kills, and Kellie DeHaas had a team-best six digs.
The Beavers wrap up the Showcase with a 7:30 p.m. match against Missouri in what will end up being the championship match of the round robin tournament. The Tigers defeated Idaho in three games in Saturday's first match, so Mizzou and the Beavers will both take 2-0 records into Saturday night's match.
