No. 1 Stanford Sweeps St. Mary's 3-0

Moraga, Calif. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford women's volleyball team defeated St. Mary's College, 3-0, behind Lindsey Yamasaki's 12 kills and 13 digs in a non-conference match in Moraga, Calif. Games scores were 30-26, 30-18, 30-23.
The Cardinal improve to 3-0 on the year while the Gaels fall to 2-2.
In game one, St. Mary's took the early lead, jumping out to 11-6. After a Stanford timeout, the situation did not improve for the Cardinal as the Gaels continued to lead 15-8. Stanford pulled to within two at 14-16 on a St. Mary's hitting error, forcing a Gael timeout. An Ogonna Nnamani kill tied the game at 17-all. With the game tied at 20-20, the Cardinal went on a five point run to take the 25-20 advantage on a Sara McGee/Ashley Ivy block. Stanford pushed the lead to 27-21 on a Yamasaki kill. The Cardinal reached game point on a McGee kill and finished out the game with a Nnamani kill at 30-26.
Stanford scored the first four points in game two but the Gaels returned the favor by scoring the next four. The Cardinal made another strong push at 7-6, scoring four consecutive points to go up 11-6. Another four point run at 11-9, gave Stanford a 15-9 edge while a tip shot by Yamasaki put the Cardinal up 22-14. A block by McGee and Robinson, followed by a Nnamani kill forced a St. Mary's timeout at 25-16. Stanford reached game point on a kill by Sara Dukes and won game two on a tip by Ivy at 30-18.
Stanford took control of game three early, staking a 5-1 lead, and never looked back. The Cardinal extended their lead to 14-8 on back-to-back kills by Yamasaki and Ivy. St. Mary's called a timeout at 21-15 after a Gael hitting error. Stanford continued to press forward reaching 28-21 on a McGee kill. The Cardinal got to game and match point on a Nnamani kill and a St. Mary's service error game Stanford the victory.
Stanford hit .384 for the match while the Gaels hit only .097. The Cardinal also outdug SMC 51 to 25 for the match.
