Ward Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD junior midfielder/forward Marcie Ward has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 27-Sept. 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Ward, from Alamo, Calif., scored the Cardinal's second goal in a 3-0 upset win at top-ranked Santa Clara on Aug. 30. Ward also tallied six shots, including three on goal, against the defending NCAA Champion Broncos. Ward took a pass from Marcia Wallis and gave Stanford a 2-0 lead at 49:59. The win marks the Cardinal's first over Santa Clara since 1994 and came before 4,756 fans at SCU's Buck Shaw Stadium.
Stanford (1-0-0), which shares third place in the latest NSCAA/adidas Top-25 poll with Texas A&M, is back in action Friday, Sept. 6 when it hosts the Aggies at 5 p.m.
This is Ward's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Stanford's 11th Player of the Week honor all-time.
