CORVALLIS, Ore. - -
Former Oregon State standout rower Joey Hansen has earned a seat in the United States National Team boat for the second consecutive year, it was announced recently. Hansen competed at Oregon State beginning in the 1997-98 season through 2000-01.
Hansen will row the three seat in the eight that is scheduled to compete in the world championships in Seville, Spain on Sept. 14. The U.S. is one of a few boats favored to win the gold medal.
Earlier this year at the World Cup, in Lucerne, Switzerland, the U.S. eight took gold, beating out Canada's shell by three seconds.
While at Oregon State, Hansen was part of a varsity eight boat that competed at the IRA national championships each year he was in the varsity boat. The squad finished as high as eighth in 1999.
Hansen was a three-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection at OSU, and in the fall of his senior year, he recorded one of the fastest ergometer times in the country.
