Volleyball Sweeps Fordham, Improves To 5-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Oregon volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the year with a 30-28, 30-27, 30-22 sweep over Fordham in the first match of the University of Miami Tournament in Coral Gables, Fla.
In just her second match of the season, junior outside hitter Heather Gilmore notched the first double double of her career, finishing with 12 kills and 11 digs. Gilmore added three blocks and two service aces while hitting .227 for the match.
Senior Lindsay Closs led all attackers with 13 kills and had four blocks. After struggling with her serve early in the season, Closs had a career-high six service aces and kept Fordham out of sync with her powerful jump serve.
Oregon's freshmen also turned in a solid performance with outside hitter Jaclyn Jones and middle blocker Kelly Russell each tallying eight kills in the match. Jones committed just one error to hit .438 and Russell added six digs.
As a team, Oregon outkilled (53-32) and outdug (63-44) Fordham to drop the Rams to 1-3 on the season.
The Ducks return to action versus Miami tonight at 7 p.m. (4 p.m. PST).
