OSU Settles For A Tie With Long Beach State

Sept. 13, 2002

Long Beach, Calif. - -

Oregon State (2-1-2) came away from its match at Long Beach State with a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon thanks to a score from freshman Stacie Mescher in the 53rd minute.

Mescher was the recipient of a cross pass from Katie Henderson, who took the ball out wide from Cassidy Temple. Henderson centered it to Mescher, took one dribble and knocked it home for a 1-0 lead.

The 49ers (0-4-1) rallied with a score from Sarah Gamet in the 85th minute to knot the game at 1-1 and ultimately send the game to overtime.

'We didn't start out as we would have liked in the first half,' OSU coach Steve Fennah said. 'We played better as the game wore on, however, every time we tried to attack, we got fouled.

'It was a very physical contest and we battled hard, but there just wasn't any flow in the game,' Fennah said, in reference to calls that raised some controversy throughout the game.

'We've got to regroup and come out ready on Sunday at UC-Santa Barbara.'

OSU takes on UCSB at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
