Ball State Beats Beavers In Five Games

MINNEAPOLIS - The Oregon State volleyball team dropped its third straight match, this time suffering a 3-2 setback to Ball State at the Nike Invitational on Saturday night. Game scores were 27-30, 30-21, 28-30, 30-27, 15-7.
The Cardinals improved to 4-6, while OSU fell to 5-3.
Ball State hit .278 on the night, highlighted by Katie Butts' match-high 25 kills and .444 hitting percentage. Sarah Obras chipped in 22 kills while hitting .305.
For the Beavers, Megan McMillan and Allison Lawrence picked up their second double-doubles of the day. McMillan led OSU with 19 kills and had 13 digs, and Lawrence added 16 kills and 15 digs, both new career-highs. Michele Solomon had a season-high 15 kills and hit a team-best .353. The Beavers hit just .228 for the night as a team.
Ball State topped or tied the Beavers in every statistical category. The Cardinals outhit (84-70 kills) and outdug (91-88) OSU, while the teams finished even in blocks (9) and aces (8).
Stephanie Keller turned in a match-high 36 digs for the Cardinals, while Nikki Neuburger led OSU with a career-high 24 digs. K.C. Frederic also turned in her first double-figure performance of the season, finishing with 11 digs.
'It's only the third week of the season, so that gives us a lot of time to get better. We definitely have some things to work on,' said coach Nancy Somera.
The Beavers open Pac-10 play next week, with matches at Washington and No. 25 Washington State.
