Brittany Kirk Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Sept. 17, 2002
BERKELEY - California senior midfielder Brittany Kirk has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Kirk, from Claremont, Calif., posted a goal and had the game-winning assist in a 2-1 win over No. 3 Santa Clara Sept. 13. In Cal's first road game of the season, Sept. 15 against Saint Mary's, Kirk helped the Bears escape with a 1-1 tie as she scored with 14 seconds left in regulation.
The assist against the Broncos was the 18th of Kirk's career, moving her into a tie for third place on the California all-time list. She is only six assists away from surpassing U.S. national team star Joy (Biefeld) Fawcett's school record of 23.
Cal (4-1-1 overall, 0-0-0 Pac-10), which is ranked as high as No. 4 in this week's Soccer Buzz poll, visits Fresno State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
This is Kirk's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and California's 11th such honor all-time.
