Women's Golf Finishes 18th at NCAA Fall Preview

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Arizona State women's golf team finished in18th place heading at the NCAA Fall Preview, held Sun.-Tues., Sept. 15-17 at the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The 54-hole event, which was hosted by Purdue University, is the precursor to the 2003 NCAA Championships, which will be held at the par 72, 6,225-yard course May 20-23, 2003.
The Sun Devils, who played with two true freshmen and a sophomore in the lineup, carded a 27-over 322 for the second consecutive and finishes with a three-round total of 952. Arizona came from behind, climbing from third to win the tournament with a 25-over total of 889, while Oklahoma State, the leader after the first two rounds, finished second. Vanderbilt (901), Duke (902) and Auburn (904) rounded out the top five.
For the Sun Devils, junior Blair O'Neal (Tempe, Ariz.) finished in a tie for 18th with a three-round total of nine-over par 225 (74-76-75). Freshman Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.) tied for 62nd at 237 (80-80-77), while sophomore Erin Tone (Gilbert, Ariz.) finished in a tie for 80th (84-81-81=246). Senior Gaï¿½lle Truet (New Caledonia) and freshman Sara Jones (Valencia, Calif.) both finished in a tie for 83rd at 248 (87-78-83 and 84-82-82, respectively).
Individually, Arizona's Miriam Kraschinski won medalist honors with a one-under total of 215 after carding a pair of 70s in the final two rounds.
Arizona State returns to action Sept. 26-28 at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
