Cal Men Fourth, Women Fifth at Aggie Invitational

DAVIS, Calif. - The California men's cross country team placed fourth with 138 points, while the women took fifth with 163 at the Aggie Invitational Saturday morning at Recreation Hall. Both squads ran primarily their 'B' team.
Adidas Transport won the men's competition with 27 points by grabbing the top three scoring spots among individual runners. Host UC Davis was second with 39 points, followed by Santa Clara with 80. On the women's side, UC Davis took top honors with 44 points, ahead of Cal State Stanislaus (72), Sacramento State (83) and Sonoma State (130).
Junior Jon Balzer was Cal's top runner in 16th, completing the 8000-meter run in 25:55.30. Senior John Burke wasn't far behind in 22nd at 26:12.90. Nike Farm Team's Nate Bowen was entered as an individual and won the men's race in 24:37.50.
Cal redshirt freshman Maja Ruznic had a strong 5000-meter run, grabbing 18th in 18:59.80. The next best Bear runner was sophomore Katie White, who placed 38th in 19:37.30. Impalas' Teresa McWalters posted the winning time of 17:54.30.
