Volleyball Falls To No. 1 USC, 3-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Washington volleyball (10-3 / 2-2 Pac-10) lost to No. 1 USC (10-0 / 4-0 Pac-10) this evening (30-28, 30-19, 30-26) despite posting a higher hitting percentage in two out of three games.

The Huskies out-hit the Lady Trojans in game one (.256-. 255) and game three (.225- .167) but USC held the advantage in the kill category, 55-42 to squeak out the victory.

Senior Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) led the Washington attack, posting 19 kills and making only two errors for a .425 hitting percentage. Sophomore Sanja Tomasevic (Uzice, Yugoslavia) also scored in double-figures for the Huskies with 10 kills, while collecting nine digs.

Libero Candace Lee (Eugene, Ore.) lead the Husky defense with a match-high 16 digs, while Gretchen Maurer (San Clemente, Calif.) chipped in 11 digs and 35 assists.

Washington returns to the Northwest for the first of three home matches against Arizona State on Oct. 3. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
