Stanford, Calif. -
Welcome to the ESPN.com moderated chat room! On Wednesday, October 2, Stanford women's soccer player Callie Withers (Los Altos Hills, CA) will make a special visit to chat with fans about the top-ranked Cardinal and the team's upcoming games with No. 2 North Carolina and Tulane at the Saint Mary's Tournament this weekend. Withers has emerged as one of the team's top players and a dominate force in the midfield.
Withers earned a spot on Soccer America's Team of the Week for Sept. 16-22, for her performance at the Stanford Nike Invitational. She was dominate in the midfield, orchestrating two 4-0 victories over Oklahoma and Florida. Withers netted her second goal of the season against the Gators when she connected on a 30-yard blast, giving the Cardinal the 3-0 halftime lead.
Last weekend she helped lead Stanford to two wins at the Santa Clara adidas Classic, becoming the first team other than host Santa Clara to take home the team championship trophy based on goal differential.
Last year Withers started all 20 matches for the Cardinal and was named to NSCAA/adidas West Region All-America second team and earned All-Pac-10 Team accolades.
Withers and her teammates achieved the No. 1 Ranking in the NSCAA/adidas Poll this week, marking the highest ranking in Stanford women's soccer program history. Stanford will battle No. 2 North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 4 in Moraga at 2 p.m. as part of the Saint Mary's Tournament. The Cardinal will then take on Tulane at noon on Sunday, Oct. 6 in Saint Mary's Stadium.
Withers, a native of Los Altos Hills, Calif., is a 1999 graduate of Henry Gunn High School in Los Altos.
