Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season At ITA All-American Championships

SEATTLE, Wash.- Washington women's tennis opens the fall season at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif., beginning with pre-qualifying rounds held Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6, at UCLA.
Six Husky singles players and three doubles teams will compete in the pre-qualifying rounds this weekend, vying for spots in next week's qualifying draw. Junior Claire Carter (Nottingham, England) and senior Darija Klaic (Zupanja, Croatia) will compete in the singles qualifying draw and the doubles main draw next week at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
In the first round of singles matches beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, sophomore Dea Sumantri (Jakarta, Indonesia), the No. 12 seed, will face Wisconsin's Katie McGaffigan. Junior Erin Hoe (Miliani, Hawaii) will face the fifth-seed from Harvard Eva Wang, and senior Erin Boisclair (Agoura Hills, Calif.) counters Alice Sukner from Marshall.
The 10 a.m. singles matches feature senior 14th-seed Colleen Gray (Granite Bay, Calif.) against UC Irvine's Tiffany Chang, while senior Andrea Coulter (Calgary, Canada) will face Rice's Blair Disesa. Making her UW debut will be freshman Dinka Hadzic (Split, Croatia) against Wisconsin's Shana McElroy.
In the first round of pre-qualifying doubles Saturday, the fifth-seeded team of Gray and Sumantri will face TCU's Saber Pierce and Karla Mancinas at 1:30 p.m.. Also competing will be Coulter and Hoe versus Lauren Archer and Blair Disesa at 1:30 p.m., and Boisclair and Hadzic against UCLA's Shilpa Joshi and Mariko Fritz-Krockow at 4 p.m.
The Women's ITA All-American Championships continue with the qualifying draw Tuesday, Oct. 8, and Wednesday, Oct. 9. The main draw rounds will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 13.
