No. 1 USC Defeats No. 4 Stanford In Five Games

Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal senior Logan Tom had a match-high 29 kills as the No. 4 Stanford women's volleyball team fell to No. 1 USC, 3-2, tonight in Maples Pavilion before a crowd of 3,937. Game scores were 30-23, 27-30, 30-28, 25-30, 22-24.
Stanford falls to 12-2 overall, 3-1 in the Pac-10 while the Trojans improve to 11-0, 5-0 in league play.
The loss snapped a 26 consecutive match winning streak at Maples Pavilion for the Cardinal.
Both teams had seven match points each in game five before the Trojans finally ended the game on a block.
Ogonna Nnamani chipped in 15 kills and a career-high eight blocks on the night while teammate Ashley Ivy added 14 kills and 15 digs to the effort. Tom had a team and season-high 20 digs on the night. Setter Anna Robinson also notched a career high with 62 assists. Libero Courtney Schultz had a career-high 17 digs as well.
USC was led by April Ross' 19 kills and libero Nicole Davis' match-high 24 digs. Keao Burdine chipped in 18 kills and 14 digs on the evening.
For the match, Stanford outhit Southern California .305 to .218 and outblocked the Trojans 19 to 12.
The Cardinal is next in action tomorrow night against No. 13 UCLA at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
