Women's Soccer Rallies For 2-2 Tie Against Loyola Marymount

Oct. 4, 2002

LOS ANGELES - Junior midfielder Megan Abbamonto scored off a corner kick at 88:12 for the game-tying goal Friday and the No. 18 USC Trojans played to a 2-2 tie against the Loyola Marymount Lions in non-conference action at McAlister Field. The Women of Troy rallied after LMU's Kellie Schroeder scored her second goal of the match at 85:51, also on a corner kick.

Loyola Marymount (6-2-2) took the lead in the first half when Schroeder sliced through the Trojan defense and scored off a cross from Lori Sims. USC (4-3-3) answered in the second half when Ali Fennell scored on a penalty kick after an LMU hand ball in the penalty box. It was Fennell's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

'I felt we got outworked today,' said USC head coach Jim Millinder. 'LMU is an excellent team. We have to battle every game and our players have to learn that for us to be a better team. I thought Megan Abbamonto was a big-time player for us today.'

USC will host No. 8 Santa Clara, the defending national champions, on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 1 p.m. at McAlister Field.
