Ducks Fall to 11th After Two Rounds in Tacoma
Oct. 8, 2002
TACOMA, Wash. - Oregon struggled to a 315 Tuesday and fell to 11th after the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, played at the 6,102-yard, par-73 Tacoma Country Club.
Freshman Therese Wenslow was unable to sustain the hot start she had in the first round, but still remained in contention after a 3-over 76 Tuesday that left her tied for seventh overall at 1-over 147. The Swede is five strokes back of leader Becky Lucidi of USC, who followed her course record 65 on Monday with a 77 Tuesday for a 142 total.
USC led the team competition at 593, seven strokes better than Washington and Pepperdine's 600. California was at 602 and UCLA was at 604. Oregon checked in with a 627.
Despite the disappointing team score, there were some bright spots for the Ducks. Freshman Michelle Timpani, from nearby Gig Harbor, Wash., rebounded from an opening round 86 to card a 79 Tuesday, while senior Annie Davis, the converted trackster from Portland, Ore., shot a career-low 80 in just her fourth collegiate tournament. Davis was 55th overall at 164, while Timpani was tied for 56th at 165.
The final round begins Wednesday at 8 a.m.
