Five Women's Tennis Players Eliminated From ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Draw

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- All five Washington women's tennis players competing in the first and second rounds of ITA All-American Championships qualifying singles draw were eliminated from the tournament at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., today.
Junior Claire Carter and senior Darija Klaic, both eliminated in singles action today, will still compete as a doubles team in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships Thursday, Oct. 10, through Sunday Oct. 13.
Carter was the only Husky to pick up a first-round victory in the qualifying draw, taking care of UCLA's Jackie Carlton in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. In the second-round, Northwestern's Cristelle Grier, eliminated Carter with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Klaic, the 11th-seed in the qualifying draw, was upset in the first round by unseeded Urska Juric from Missouri, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-5.
Senior Colleen Gray and sophomore Dea Sumantri advanced to the qualifying draw through last weekend's pre-qualifying tournament. Gray lost to Duke's Saras Arasu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, while Sumantri fell victim to the No. 2 seed, Marlene Mejia from North Carolina, losing 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Senior Erin Boisclair, who was initially eliminated with a third-round loss in the pre-qualifying draw Sunday, was inserted in the qualifying draw as a 'lucky loser.' Boisclair was not able to advance past the first round of the qualifying draw, falling to Harvard's Suzanne Lingman, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
