Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Pepperdine
Oct. 8, 2002
SOMIS, Calif. - Oregon shot a disappointing 306 and fell to sixth after the final round of the Club Grove Intercollegiate, played Tuesday at the 6,883-yard, par-72 Saticoy Country Club.
Oregon's John Ellis, a senior from San Jose, Calif., tied for sixth at even-par 216, but closed with a disappointing 74 Tuesday. Fellow Duck senior Chris Carnahan, from Albany, Ore., started the day tied with Ellis for third, but struggled to a 76 Tuesday and finished tied for ninth at 218.
'I'm disappointed that we didn't play better today,' said Oregon head coach Steve Nosler. 'We certainly had a chance to finish higher. Fortunately, we managed to stay ahead of most of the teams in our region, so that will help us in terms of qualifying for the postseason in the spring.'
UC Irvine won the team competition at 868, a stroke better than Pepperdine's 869. Oklahoma was next at 884, followed by New Mexico at 887, UCLA at 889 and Oregon at 891.
The Ducks return to action next Monday and Tuesday at California's Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
