Ducks Finish 11th at Edean Ihlanfeldt

Oct. 9, 2002

TACOMA, Wash. - For the second straight tournament, Oregon's Therese Wenslow bagged a school record. Two weeks ago at the Shanico Invitational, she set a UO freshman record for 18 holes by carding a 69. Wednesday, she set the school's freshman record for a three-round event with an even-par 219 at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, played at the 6,102-yard, par-73 Tacoma Country Club.

Wenslow, the first Swede ever to play for Oregon, led the Ducks for the third straight day, carding a 1-under 72 to finish the tournament alone in fifth place at even-par. She broke Jerilyn White's 1997 mark of 222 that was set at Stanford's par-72 course.

'Therese just played awesome, solid golf,' said Oregon coach Shannon Rouillard. 'It's a great accomplishment to get another record in just her second tournament. I'm so proud of her.'

Wenslow finished four strokes back of individual champion Mikaela Parmlid of USC, who defeated Lindsey Wright in a playoff.

USC won the team competition with an 885, 15 strokes better than Washington and 16 fewer than Pepperdine. The Ducks finished 11th at 942, seven strokes behind 10th place Long Beach State.

'The four scores that we counted the last two days weren't too high, I think it's just a matter of gaining experience and making a few adjustments,' said Rouillard. 'Hopefully we gained some of both today.'
