TACOMA, Wash. - -

The Oregon State women's golf team closed out the third round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational with a 313 and finished ninth overall. The Beavers topped 11th-place Oregon by seven strokes with a three-round total of 927 at the par-73 Tacoma Golf and Country Club.

'We started off well with a lot of birdies,' coach Rise Lakowske said. 'The players were swinging the club well, but when we got into trouble later we ended up making double or triple bogey instead of bogey.'

Leah Whiting shot a 7-over-par 80 in the final round to give her a three-round total of 230, good enough for a 22nd-place tie. Whiting now has two top-25 finishes in just three tournaments as a freshman at OSU.

Junior Laura Skinner, who competed in every tournament for the Beavers last season, matched her second round score by firing a 77 giving her a final score of 234.

Seniors Stacie Ferguson and Ashlei Pendleton also posted scores of 234 on the tournament. Skinner, Pendleton and Ferguson tied for 32nd.

Alex Lee rounded out the team scoring for OSU tied for 45th. Playing as an individual, Alex Lucio finished two places behind Lee with a tie for 50th.

'We've played some tough courses so far,' Lakowske said. 'We have some shots we need to work on before the next tournament at Stanford, but we like the course at Stanford and seem to play well there.'

No. 16 USC took home first place with a 9-over 885. Host Washington totaled a 900 to take second. Mikaela Parmlid of USC took home the individual title with a 214. Parmlid won after a playoff with Lindsey Wright of Pepperdine.

The Beavers tee it up next Oct. 18-20 at the Stanford Pepsi Invitational.
