Oct. 10, 2002

The 13th-ranked UCLA volleyball team defeated Oregon State in three games Thursday, 35-33, 30-22, 30-18.

Allison Lawrence led the Beaver offense for the fourth match in a row, picking up 12 kills. Karah Rhoades had 10 kills, for her third straight double-figure performance. No other Beaver player had more than six kills, as OSU (6-9, 1-5 Pac-10) had just 38 kills and hit .145.

UCLA (11-6, 4-3) had 60 kills and hit .288, led by Brynn Murphy's 13 kills and .522 attack percentage. Lauren Fendrick also had 13 kills.

'We were flat tonight. We made uncharacteristic errors. For the amount of time we spend training these skills, we executed very poorly tonight,' coach Nancy Somera said. 'We had too many players not doing their job.'

Nikki Neuburger had 18 digs, but no other Beaver player had more than six as OSU finished with 48. OSU entered the match as the Pac-10 leader for digs, but the Beavers were outdug for just the third time this season.

Katelyn Healy came off the bench and had a career-high two kills, and Desma Stovall recorded a career-high eight assists after Somera decided to run a 6-2 offense in game three.
