Women's Basketball To Participate In Breast Cancer Fundraiser Sunday

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Washington women's basketball team has volunteered to participate in a fundraiser called The 2002 Basketball Challenge - A Full Court Press Against Breast Cancer, Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2-4 p.m. at Key Arena. The event benefits breast cancer programs at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Joining the women's basketball team at the event will also be athletes from the Washington track and field, cross country, swimming, crew and football teams.

Activities include a Sonics' preseason intrasquad scrimmage and skills challenge. The UW women's basketball team will assist in gathering donations for UW breast cancer programs during the event. Celebrity guests include basketball legend Magic Johnson, Storm guard Sue Bird, Will Ferrell from 'Saturday Night Live,' Frankie Muniz from 'Malcolm In The Middle,' Matthew Lillard from 'Scooby Doo,' Jeff Ament from 'Pearl Jam,' and others.

The event is open to the public and is free of charge. The Basketball Challenge is being held in honor of former Seattle Storm player, WNBA star and breast cancer survivor, Edna Campbell.
