Cougars Face Pacific-10 Foes at Mackenzie Invitational

What's Happening This Week: The Cougars will face their first big test against Pac-10 foes in the MacKenzie Invitational Oct. 14-15 at the par 71, 6,585 yard Meadow Club Golf Course at Fairfax, Calif....seven Pac-10 schools are represented at the tournament...first major event the Golden Bears have hosted since 1998, and first collegiate tournament ever at the Meadow Club...Course was designed by Alister MacKenzie who has designed over 100 golf courses...tee times will be Monday at 7:30 a.m., second round continuous play, third and final round Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Field: The 17-team field will consist of California, Colorado, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Nevada, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, San Jose State, Stanford, UC-Irvine, UC-Santa Barbara, UCLA, USF, Washington, and Washington State.
Last Week at the Wolf Pack Classic: Dustin White finished in fifth place at the Wolf Pack Classic at the par 72, 7,359 yard Genoa Lakes Gold Club and recorded his record setting 15th career Top 10 finish...best final round score for the Cougars belonged to Isaac Woods jumped up 21 spots into a tie for 29th with a 2-under 70...WSU finished in fourth place out of 15 schools and shot an identical score of 294 in the final round as it did in the first round...Ryan Ressa finished the tournament in a tie for 27th, missing another Top 25 finish by just one stroke. Ryan Camp finished in a tie for 37th, and Ben Bryson finished tied for 57th.
Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 74th as a team according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, up seven spots from last week...according to Golfstat.com, WSU ranks 52nd in the country as a team, and ranks seventh in the country in total short game...WSU ranks 44th in the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) Precept Coaches Division I Top 25 Poll...WSU is tied for 28th on the GCAA Division 1 Fans Poll...junior Ryan Camp is ranked eighth in putts on green in regulation according to Golfstat.com
White Hot: Dustin White ranks 136th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index...White has been selected as one of the Top 50 male players to watch during the 2002-03 season by GolfWorld magazine in its Sept. 6 issue...White is ranked 82nd in the latest Golfstat Cup rankings with a scoring average of 70.67, adjusted for par and conditions...White has finished in the Top 10 in each of his last three tournaments...with the Wolf Pack Classic Top 10 finish, White takes over first place on the career Top 10 finishes list at 15, surpassing the previous record of 14 by Jon Reehoorn.
Big Fish, Small Water Hazard: Newcomers to the WSU team, whether freshmen or transfers, have produced in the fall golf season...transfers Ryan Ressa and Ben Bryson already have one Top 25 finish a piece, and Ressa missed out on another one by only one stroke at the Wolf Pack Classic...Bryson on the season already has two rounds at 69, which is second on the team for rounds under 70 behind Dustin White with 4...Newcomers Ressa, Bryson, and freshman Chad Carlson have six rounds at par or under between them...as a group, the freshmen and transfers have a scoring average of 75.05, with Carlson's 73.3, and Ressa's 73.4 leading the team.
