Vlaski Falls One Win Shy Of ITA All-American Championship Final

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- After winning his quarterfinal match earlier today, Washington sophomore tennis player Alex Vlaski fell from the ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw singles competition with a loss in the semifinals in Chattanooga, Tenn., Saturday.
Vlaski, the No. 11 seed, faced the only unseeded player to advance to the final eight, Phil Stolt from Illinois, in the quarterfinals this morning. The Husky sophomore battled back from a 4-6 loss in the first set to win the next two, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Then in the semifinals, Vlaski fell short against the No. 7 seed, Daniel Klemetz from Middle Tennessee in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1. Klementz advanced to tomorrow's final against Amer Delic from Illinois.
The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships and its women's counterpart - the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships - are the first of three national championship tournaments for collegiate tennis during the 2002-03 season. The two other tournaments (for singles and doubles only) are the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
