SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Seven Oregon tennis players will make their season debuts at the San Diego All-College Tournament beginning Friday morning. Jason Menke, Thomas Bieri, Andrew Walker, Arron Spencer, Chris King, Junaid Hossain and Kyle Halberg will play in the 11-team, three-day tournament.
Players from Arizona, Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and host San Diego will join Oregon in the competition. The tourney features two flights of singles play, with 32 players in each draw. There is also a 30-team doubles draw, with the top two seeds earning a first-round bye.
This will be Halberg, King and Menke's second consecutive year playing in the tournament, while the other four Ducks are all freshmen and playing in their first collegiate action. King, a junior, won all five of his single matches at last year's tournament.
Bieri and Hossain will be the No. 3 seed in the doubles draw. Two other Oregon pairs will play, Menke joining with Spencer and King teaming up with Walker.
