OSU Women Tenth After Two Rounds At Stanford Pepsi Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Oregon State women's golf team shot 621 after two rounds of the Stanford Pepsi Invitational at the par-72 Stanford Golf Course on Saturday and is in sole possession of 10th place with 18 holes remaining on Sunday.

The Beavers closed out the day eight shots behind ninth-placed Stanford, shooting a 313 on the day. OSU is playing against seven top-25 teams, including No. 1 Arizona, whom the Beavers trail by 13 shots heading into the third and final round.

Senior Ashlei Pendleton remained in the top-20 finishing round two tied for 16th, firing a 4-over-par 76.

'We hit the ball well, but just had a tough day,' OSU coach Rise Lakowske said. 'The pin placements were much tougher today, which may have contributed some to our scores.'

Stacie Ferguson moved up six spots and is tied for 53rd after going even on the front nine. Ferguson carded a 4-over 76, giving her a two-round total of 156.

Junior Laura Skinner cut one stroke off her first round 79 shooting a 78, which gives her a two-round total of 157. Going into the final day of action Skinner is tied for 56th.

'Laura played solid for us today,' Lakowske said. 'She is working hard, and is very close to putting everything together and having a good round.'

Kelly Ferris and Leah Whiting shot 83 and 84, respectively.

Whiting began the day tied for 19th, but struggled early in the round, slipping into a tie for 66th heading into Sunday's action.

In the individual competition, Erica Blasberg of Arizona shot a 73-69-142, and holds a slim one shot lead on New Mexico State's Alena Sharp.

Current leader Washington shot a 295-294-589 after the first two rounds and holds a three-stroke lead on No. 24 California.

The Beavers will begin Sunday's action with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
