Men's Golf Travels to Sunny San Diego

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team travels to sunny San Diego for the 2002 Barona Collegiate Cup at the Par 72, 7,048 yard Barona Creek Golf Course at Lakeside, Calif....the tournament is a two day, three round event hosted by the San Diego State Aztecs...Ohio State is the defending champion...

Field: The 16-team field will consist of California, Fresno State, San Diego State, BYU, Colorado State, Denver, Hawaii, Louisville, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas El-Paso, Texas-San Antonio, UNC-Greensboro, and Washington State.

Last Week at the MacKenzie Invite: Ryan Camp finished in a tie for 23rd in the MacKenzie Invitational at the Par 71, 6,585 yard Meadow Club Golf Course at Fairfax, Calif. Camp was even par for the day, firing a 1-under 71 in the second round, and than shooting a team best 1-over 72 in the final round. Overall, Camp maintained consistent play through all three rounds, finishing at 3-over, and recording his second Top 25 finish of the fall, and tenth overall. The Cougars came out firing in the second round as a team, improving their total team strokes by 17. Overall, WSU finished the tournament in 13th place. Ryan Ressa finished second on the team in a tie for 43rd, and Dustin White shot the lowest score of any round for the team with a 68 in the second round, to finish in a tie for 57th with Isaac Woods (77-72-74 - 223, +10). Chad Carlson finished in a tie for 69th to round out the Cougar contingent.

Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 74th as a team according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index...According to, WSU ranks 53rd in the country as a team, and ranks seventh in the country in total short game...WSU ranks 44th in the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) Precept Coaches Division I Top 25 Poll...WSU is tied for 37th on the GCAA Division 1 Fans Poll.

White Hot: Dustin White ranks 103rd in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, up 33 spots from last week...White has been selected as one of the Top 50 male players to watch during the 2002-03 season by GolfWorld magazine in its Sept. 6 issue...White is ranked 50th in the latest Golfstat Cup rankings, moving up 32 spots with a scoring average of 70.44, adjusted for par and also ranks White in a tie for fourth in the nation with a 79.6% greens in regulation...White has finished in the Top 10 in three of his last four tournaments... With the Wolf Pack Classic Top 10 finish Oct. 8, White takes over first place on the career Top 10 finishes list at 15, surpassing the previous record of 14 by Jon Reehoorn.

Big Fish, Small Water Hazard: Newcomers to the WSU team, whether freshman or transfers, have produced in the fall golf season...Transfers Ryan Ressa and Ben Bryson already have one Top 25 finish a piece, and Ressa missed out on another one by only one stroke at the Wolf Pack Classic...Bryson on the season already has two rounds at 69, which is second on the team for rounds under 70 behind Dustin White with 4...Newcomers Ressa, Bryson, and freshman Chad Carlson have eight rounds at par or under between them...As a group, the freshman and transfers have a scoring average of 75.05, with Carlson's 73.3, and Ressa's 73.4 leading the team.
