Frazelle Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
Oct. 22, 2002
UCLA senior midfielder Jimmy Frazelle has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Frazelle, from Folsom, Calif., helped then-No. 6 UCLA to a pair of Pac-10 wins last week, as the Bruins defeated No. 1 Stanford 1-0 in overtime and downed California 2-1. Against the top-ranked Cardinal on Oct. 20, Frazelle scored the game-winner in the second minute of overtime. It was his fourth goal on the season, his third game-winner and second consecutive game-winner. On Oct. 18, UCLA snapped the 13th-ranked Golden Bears' school-record nine-game win streak.
Unbeaten in its last six games, UCLA is 8-1-2 overall, 3-0-0 in Pac-10 play. The Bruins travel to Oregon State and Washington this weekend. UCLA is No. 4 in this week's NSCAA/adidas poll and is ranked No. 5 by Soccer America.
This is the first weekly honor for Frazelle and the 12th all-time Player of the Week honor for UCLA. Frazelle is the fourth different Bruin player to earn Player of the Week honors this year, joining Adolfo Gregorio, Tim Pierce and Zach Wells.
In addition, Frazelle was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week and to Soccer America's Team of the Week for the first time.
