Women's Tennis Set For ITA Northwest Regional Championships

SEATTLE, Wash.- The Washington women's tennis team is set for its second tournament of the fall season, with nine singles players and four doubles teams slated to compete in the 2002 Omni Hotels ITA Northwest Regional Championships hosted by Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. The event will be held Fri., Oct. 25, through Mon., Oct. 28 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Competing for Washington in the singles draw will be No. 8 seed senior Darija Klaic, No. 11 seed junior Claire Carter, freshman Stephanie Svanfeldt, freshman Dinka Hadzic, senior Erin Boisclair, senior Colleen Gray, senior Andrea Coulter, sophomore Dea Sumantri and junior Erin Hoe.
The All-American doubles team of Carter and Klaic is the third-seeded pair in the doubles draw, while the UW duo of Gray and Sumantri is seeded ninth. Also representing the Huskies in the doubles draw will be the teams of Coulter and Hadzic, and Boisclair and Hoe.
The tournament features the top NCAA Divison I women's tennis players from the ITA's Northwestern Region. Teams slated to compete include Cal Poly, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, St. Mary's College, as well as Pac-10 squads California, Oregon, Stanford and Washington State.
The singles finalists and doubles champions from the ITA Northwest Regional Championships will advance to the 2002 National Indoor Championships, Nov. 7-10, at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
