Volleyball Sweeps No. 18 Arizona State

TUCSON, Ariz.- After getting swept by in-state rival Arizona State in Tempe earlier in the season, the 16th-ranked Arizona volleyball team came ready to play in the rematch in McKale Center on Friday night. The Wildcats found little trouble with the No. 18 Sun Devils this time around, sweeping the match by scores of 30-18, 30-16, 30-22.

The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 11-7 overall and tied them with ASU in the conference standings at 6-4. Arizona State fell to 10-5 overall with the loss. The win was Arizona's fifth in its last six matches.

As a team the Wildcats dominated on both offense and defense. Arizona tallied 47 kills to ASU's 30 and hit a season-high .402 in the process. At the net the Wildcats out-blocked the Sun Devils 10 to 5.5 and out-dug them in the back row 30 to 18.

Freshmen Bre Ladd and Kim Glass continued their mid-season surge on offense. Glass led all players with 16 kills on 24 swings with just three errors for a .542 hitting percentage. Ladd added 10 kills on .571 hitting in the win.

Senior Lisa Rutledge chipped in with 10 kills and nine digs, while red shirt freshman Angie Ayers added five blocks assists and a solo block for a match leading six total stuffs.

The Wildcats are off for the remainder of the weekend, but return to action next Friday and Saturday with a pair of home matches against the Washington schools. Arizona lost to Washington State 3-2 in Pullman earlier this season and defeated the Huskies in five games in Seattle. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. both nights.
