Three Bruins Into Rd. of 16 at ITA Regionals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Bruin senior Sara Walker and two Bruin newcomers were all victorious Friday in first and second round action at the Omni Hotels West Regionals in San Diego.

Walker, the tournament's No. 2 seed, defeated Rani Setiawati of Cal State Northridge, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round. She defeated Cal State Fullerton's Ruya Inapulat, 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.

Bruin freshmen Jackie Carleton and Laura Gordon also picked up two victories a piece Friday. Carleton topped Lauren Fitzgerald of Hawai'i, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the first round and UNLV's Gyorgyi Zsiros, 6-0, 6-2 in the second. Gordon knocked off SDSU's Katja Karrento, 6-2, 6-3 and Pepperdine's Monika Horvath, 7-6(0), 7-6(7).

Anya Loncaric, Kate Jolson, Mariko Fritz-Krockow and Sarah Gregg all dropped first-round matches.

In first-round doubles play, Fritz-Krockow and Shilpa Joshi defeated UNLV's Vinis/Dinham, 8-3. Gregg and Carleton upended Randono/Perry of Arizona, 8-6, while Loncaric and Gordon defeated Hubl/Fileva of LMU, 9-8(4).
