Laura Collins Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Laura Collins has been named the Pacific-10 Player of the Week for volleyball, the conference office announced Monday.
The junior setter led Oregon State to its most successful Bay Area road trip this past weekend, as OSU came away with a pair of firsts on the trip.Collins had 106 assists (13.25 apg), 17 digs (2.12 dpg) and nine kills (1.12 kpg) on.333 hitting over the weekend.
She started off the weekend by leading OSU to a 3-0 sweep of Cal on Oct. 25, marking the first time the Beavers had ever swept the Bears in Berkeley. Collins had 49 assists and a match-high 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year, and she also tied her career-high with three aces as the Beavers snapped a five-match losing skid to pick up the win over Cal. She set up an OSU offense that hit .296, the best hitting percentage by the Beavers in a Pac-10 match this season.
The following night she led the Beavers to another first, this time at No. 6 Stanford. The Beavers became just the third team to take the defending national champions to five games this season, and while OSU still couldn't pull off its first-ever win over Stanford, it was the first time the Beavers had ever played a five-game match against the Cardinal at Stanford. In fact, it was the first time since 1993 that the Beavers had won a game at Stanford. Collins did her part in the near-upset by hitting .467 with a season-high eight kills, and she dished out 57 assists as the Beavers had four players finish with double-digit kills. She also chipped in six digs.
Collins has 918 assists this season and ranks second in the Pac-10 with 12.75 assists per game. She leads the league with 12.39 assists per game in conference matches.
This is the second time Collins has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week. She was honored once as a sophomore as well.
