Bills leads Ducks with double-double in intra-squad scrimmage Friday

Nov. 1, 2002

EUGENE, Ore. - About 300 University of Oregon women's basketball fans caught a glimpse of the 2002-03 Ducks during a split-squad scrimmage Friday evening at McArthur Court.

The Oregon players competed against each other in two 16-minute halves, with several Ducks switching uniforms for the second half.

Sophomore post player Andrea Bills led everyone with 16 points and 14 rebounds while junior Cathrine Kraayeveld added 15 points and six boards.

'We had good execution and effort,' second-year coach Bev Smith said. 'Out of that came shots that just didn't fall. Overall, we have to pick up our defensive intensity.'

The Ducks shot a flurry of 3-pointers, but made just 8-of-35. Senior guard Alissa Edwards proved most successful from long range, making both of her attempts.

All-America senior guard Shaquala Williams and junior transfer Corrie Mizusawa, who is not eligible this season, each led all players with seven assists. Williams added nine points and two steals. Also, freshman center Carolyn Ganes had 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore wing Kedzie Gunderson was Oregon's other double-figure scorer with 13, to go with nine rebounds.

The women's basketball team also will show their skills Saturday at the Moshofsky Center at 9:45 a.m. before the Oregon-Stanford football game.

Oregon's first exhibition game is Saturday, Nov. 9, at McArthur Court against an all-star team from Denmark. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
