No. 6 UCLA Blanks Oregon, 2-0

Nov. 1, 2002

LOS ANGELES - The No. 6-ranked UCLA women's soccer team registered its fourth consecutive shutout Friday, downing Oregon 2-0 in a Pac-10 Conference match at UCLA's Drake Stadium. With the victory, the Bruins improve to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in the Pac-10. Oregon falls to 2-12-2 and 1-5-1 in conference play.

Following a scoreless first half, the Bruins got on the board in the 49th minute when Crystal James connected with a wide-open Katie Rivera for the Bruins' first goal of the match.

UCLA added another goal at the 60:33 mark when Rivera crossed a ball to Lindsay Greco, who put in a shot from about 10 yards out.

The Bruins outshot the Ducks, 23-2 on the night. Both of Oregon's shots were from midfielder Christan Higa.

UCLA has now won four in a row, including five of its last six. The Bruins' only loss during that span was to No. 2 Stanford back on Oct. 13.

With three points on the night, Rivera, who now has 16 on the season, took over the team lead in scoring from fellow freshman Iris Mora. Mora, who has 14 points on the season, has not played in UCLA's last four matches while representing Mexico in the 2002 Women's Gold Cup.

UCLA returns to action this Sunday to host Oregon State at Drake Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday will also be Senior Day for Bruin defender Tracey Winzen, who will be playing in her final regular-season home match.
