Nov. 3, 2002

Los Angeles, CA - The second-ranked UCLA men's soccer team maintained its lead in the Pac-10 Conference standings with a 2-0 shutout victory over Oregon State at Frank W. Marshall Field in front of 2,064 fans.

Adolfo Gregorio put the Bruins on the scoreboard early with a goal at the 3:46 mark. Ryan Futagaki started the play with a header to Cliff McKinley at midfield between two OSU defenders. McKinley then sent a pass to Gregorio, who dribbled through the defense and shot past Beaver goalkeeper Peter Billmeyer for his fourth goal of the season.

Matt Taylor doubled UCLA's lead in the second half with a chip over Billmeyer's head at the 65:03 mark, Taylor's sixth goal of the year. He was assisted by Scot Thompson and Tim Pierce.

Bruin keeper Zach Wells held the shutout, his sixth of the season. Oregon State nearly broke the shutout in the 82nd minute, but Alan Gordon's shot hit the post and was scooped up by Wells. Wells had three saves on seven Beaver shots, while Billmeyer had none on UCLA's 12 shots.

UCLA improves its record to 11-2-2, 6-1-0, while Oregon State falls to 11-6-0, 2-5-0. The Bruins will next face California on Friday, Nov. 8 in Berkeley.
