Nov. 8, 2002
Corvallis, Ore. -
IF IT'S IN THE GAME: The EA Sports West All-Stars is a team originating from Chatsworth, Cal. When the team arrives in Corvallis it will have played games at New Mexico (L 97-86), UC Riverside (L 78-69), Loyola Marymount (L 74-72), Pepperdine (L 133-126 2OT), and CS-Northridge (Nov. 9). Following Tuesday's game at OSU, the team travels to Utah (Nov. 13), Nevada (Nov. 14), California (Nov. 15), Hawaii (Nov. 17), UNLV (Nov. 19), and Fresno State (Nov. 21).
ROSTER FAMILARITY: Two EA Sports players will be familiar names to OSU fans -- Ryan Forehan-Kelly and Jan Michael-Thomas. Forehan-Kelly lettered four years at the University of California, completing his eligibility last season. Michael-Thomas was a two-year letterman (1999-2000) at Washington State. The remaing roster, which is subject to change, includes Kevin Blunt (CS-Dominguez Hills), Scott Brooks (UC Irvine), Zach Fray (Masters College), Jack Hartman (Biola), Eric Maye (CS-San Bernardino), Brooklyn McLinn (CS-Northridge), Josh Merrill (UC Santa Barbara), and Maurice Spillers (Utah State).
THE SWEEP: The two exhibition games don't count in terms of statistics and records, but OSU is shooting for a 2-0 exhibition record for the first time since the 1997-98 campaign.
BEAVERS DEFEAT NW ALL-STARS: Philip Ricci scored 18 points to lead OSU to a 84-72 win over the NW All-Stars Nov. 4. Teammates Brian Jackson added 13 points and Jimmie Haywood 12 in the win. The Beavers led by as many as 24 points in the second half. OSU shot .463 from the field, but only .192 (5-26) from three-point range.
FLOYD NORTH III SIDELINED: Oregon State sophomore guard Floyd North III is expected to miss Tuesday's game to concentrate on academic issues. He is scheduled to return for the Nov. 23 season opener vs. Idaho.
INJURY UPDATE: Sophomore forward David Lucas has been bothered by an ankle injury and is questionable for Tuesday's game. As of Friday, the remaining roster is expected to be available. OSU assistant coach Brian Loyd will be sporting a cast after rupturing his Achilles in a city league game Tuesday.
TALL TEAM: The 2002-2003 roster features seven individuals 6-feet-7 inches or taller, the most since eight players were at least that height during the 1992-93 campaign.
