Washington State Takes Women's Soccer Out Early

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State utilized three first-half goals Friday and the Cougars upset the No. 15 USC Trojans, 4-1, in Pac-10 Conference action. The Cougars defeated the Women of Troy for the first time since 1998.
WSU (11-5-2, 5-1-2) scored twice in the first six minutes on goals by Kim Morgan and Mariette Boyce. Morgan scored in front after sneaking through the Trojans' defense while Boyce scored off a corner kick. At 29:42, the Cougars made it a 3-0 lead on a goal by Nicole Wilcox.
USC (10-6-3, 5-3-0) was outshot by a 9-2 margin in the first half. The Women of Troy can still finish in third place in the Pac-10 with a win at Washington and if UCLA defeats Washington State.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Peterson left the game in the second half after injuring her left shoulder in a collision, but is expected to play on Sunday. Freshman Amy Mann scored her second goal of the season at 60:56 on a header off a corner kick from Jessica Edwards.
USC concludes the regular season on Sunday (Nov. 10) at Washington in a Pac-10 match starting at noon. The Women of Troy will learn about their postseason chances on Monday when the 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket is announced at 1:30 p.m. Pacific.
