Kost Eliminated at USTA Futures Tournament

Nov. 11, 2002

COSTA MESA, Calif. - No. 63-ranked Manuel Kost played his way into the fourth round of the qualifying draw Monday at the USTA Futures Tournament in Costa Mesa, Calif., but eventually lost to Jordan Kerr of Australia. Kerr defeated Kost, 6-2, 6-1, to end Kost's run at the tournament.

'It's been a good trip,' head coach Chris Russell said. 'The guys got some good experience and hopefully they can take some of that with them.'

In an unfortunate scheduling quirk, Kost and teammate Sven Swinnen played each other in the third round, with Kost picking up the win, 6-1, 6-2. Swinnen had qualified for the third round with a win over the No. 12 seed, Casey Smith, formerly of Notre Dame.

The men's team has now concluded play for the fall season. The team will resume action in two months.

Manuel Kost def. Sven Swinnen, 6-1, 6-2
